South Africa's labour force participation rate across its nine provinces reflects the proportion of the working-age population (ages 15-64) per province that is either employed or unemployed.

The labour absorption rate is the proportion of the working-age population aged 15 to 64 years that is employed. It is also known as the employment-to-population ratio. Statistics South Africa considers a person aged 15 to 64 employed if they did any work for at least one hour or had a job or business but were not at work.
